What is a wall decal?

Style & Apply wall decals are a fantastic alternative to pictures, wallpaper or murals when giving your rooms a new look. Our decals can be applied and removed simply and easily. No painting, hammering or framing required! Whether you’re adding a splash of color or going for an entirely new look, you can decorate almost any indoor surface with a smooth flat surface. Just browse our incredible selection of designs and we’ll help you liven up your living space in a unique and affordable way. Just style it and apply it!

How do you make a wall decal?

Your wall decal undergoes careful processing before it’s ready to apply to your wall. Each decal is sandwiched between a sheet of backing paper and a top layer of transfer tape. The image of your choice is cut or “plotted” from a sheet of colored vinyl in a way that doesn’t damage the backing paper. The next part of the process is done by hand by removing the excess vinyl and revealing your design. Finally, a layer of transfer tape is firmly pressed over the design. This makes it possible for you to either apply it in one piece or cut it into different sections as you wish.

Where can I put up my wall decal?

Good news! Your wall decals will stick to almost any smooth surfaces including smooth plaster, drywall, metal, glass, wood, tile, plastic and even painted brick. The good thing is that you don’t need to be an expert to style and apply! Just be sure to clean your wall before applying your decal to remove any dust, dirt, or grease that could act as a barrier between the adhesive and the wall. Important: Please wait at least 2 weeks before attempting to apply to a freshly painted wall. We’ve found that even if the surface looks and feels dry to the touch, paint takes a very long time to cure. Trying to put up your wall decal before the paint has completely dried could result in curling, peeling or falling off in a big mess!

Where should I not place a wall decal?

You shouldn’t apply a wall decal to any porous surface such as brick or cinder block, fabric or textile that has not been painted or sealed. Sometimes our decals are not the greatest fit for heavily textured walls or coarse grain wallpaper. If you’re not sure about your wall surface, you can request a free sample decal to try out by filling out our contact form under the “Contact Us” tab at the top of our website before ordering.

Do I need a special tool to apply my decal?

This would be very helpful! Not to worry because we include one free with every order. This is a flat plastic object about the size of a credit card (but thicker). It’s used to rub the transfer tape onto the design and afterwards to apply your decal to the wall.

How do I apply my wall decal?

Applying your wall decal is usually pretty easy, but you should nevertheless take note of a few important points: The smoother the surface, the easier the application. A little more time and patience will be needed for a textured surface. You’ll find a quick and easy instructional video guide to applying your wall decal under the “Tutorial” tab. You can also see step-by-step instructions just below the video on the same page. These same instructions are included with every order.

Can I cut out sections of my decal and apply them where I like?

Yes! You may cut out individual pieces of your decal before applying and place them wherever you wish. This allows you to position parts of your design separately to your preference or to change the distance between the pieces. If your design is very large, we definitely advise that you enlist a helper! Remember that a sizable adhesive covered area can be tricky when tackling it all by yourself. Can I return my wall decal if I don't like it?

If you’re not happy with the quality, size or color of your decal you may return it and choose a different item. It’s our sincerest wish that you’re deliriously happy with our products and service! Please visit our Shipping and Returns page for more specific details. Style and Apply unconditionally guarantees that all wall decals and wall prints will be of the highest quality and free of defects. Special note: Before you place your order, please take plenty of time to think about the design you would like and about the size and color. Every decal and print is made to order once we’ve received your request and specifications. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call or submit your query on our contact form. Also, we’re happy to send you a test design or color sample free of charge in advance.

Can I get color samples in advance?

If you’re not sure whether the color of your wall decal will be the perfect fit for your wall, or have doubts that the color shown on your computer screen is the same as the original, we’ll be happy to send you up to five color samples free of charge. Please submit your request using our convenient contact form. As always, we want to ensure your satisfaction.

Can I get a “test” decal before I order?

If you’re unsure whether your surface is suitable for a wall decal, we’ll be happy to send you a small sample free of charge. Please be in touch with us using the contact form on our website. Our wall decals will stick to almost all smooth surfaces that can be cleaned before applying. You can find more information about this question above under "Where can I put up wall decal?"

Once I have my wall decal, how long can I keep it before applying it?

We recommend that you apply your wall decal within 2 weeks after receiving it for the best results. That’s because the longer a decal sits, the better chance there is of tiny air bubbles forming between the vinyl and backing paper which causes the adhesive to dry out. This can definitely cause your decal not to stick to your wall the way it should! Also, it’s best to unroll your decal and keep it on a flat surface for a couple of hours prior to applying it. This is to ensure it doesn’t roll back up upon itself and become a sticky mess!

What does “as pictured” or “reversed” mean when choosing decal direction?

You’re free to choose whether you would like your decal to face in the direction as you see it “as pictured” on our website or “reversed” and have it created to face in the opposite direction. For instance, if you see a unicorn facing to the left on our website and think it would look much better on your wall looking to the right, just select “reversed” when placing your order.

How long does a wall decal last?

While our wall decals are not intended to be permanent, they can last for quite a few years if they are not stored for too long and applied correctly. This can also be affected by the texture of the surface and environment. We have decals decorated with Swarovski crystals that have been on the walls of our some of our homes for many years with absolutely no peeling and not one lost crystal! Can I use my wall decal more then once?

Our single color wall decals are made for a one-time use. Our highest quality vinyl is very thin and made to look as if your decal has been painted on your wall.

How do I clean my wall decal?

A little dust or dirt on your wall decal is not a problem! Our decals and prints are water resistant and can be cleaned using a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Please avoid any cleaners that contain any harsh chemicals or additives as these could affect the color or adhesiveness of your decal.

Can I easily remove my wall decals?

Unlike traditional painted-on designs, you can remove your wall decals quickly and easily without leaving any traces. When you’re ready for a new look, simply peel off your existing decal. It may be a little more difficult to remove the vinyl from smooth surfaces. If so, just warm the decal slightly with a hairdryer on a low heat setting and it should quickly become easier to pull away. Important: Since we at Style and Apply don’t know the type of paint you may have used or how old it is, we aren’t able to guarantee that you won’t loose any when removing your decal.

Do wall decals make good gifts?

How will my wall decal be delivered?

Your wall decal will be rolled up and sent in a sturdy shipping tube to protect it from damage while on its way.

How fast will I get my order?

"You typically will receive your merchandise within 2 weeks after placing your order. Since each wall tattoo is made when we receive your request and specifications, it takes us between 3-5 business days to create and process each one. Shipping will be an additional 3-5 days unless you choose expedited shipping when checking out.

Can I change my order once I've placed it?

You may make changes to your order within 48 hours after placing it free of charge. After this time a fee of 15% of the original unit price will be applied since the vinyl used to produce it will already have begun processing. Please contact us by phone or send us an email to support@styleandapply.com to request any changes.

Your order will be shipped in a sturdy tube to protect your merchandise from damage while in transit. Postage and packaging is only charged once for each shipment. No additional fees will be charged for shipments within the US.

Your order is typically shipped within 3-5 days after it is received. Please remember that your shipping time will depend on the method of shipping you select at checkout and your location. Purchasers within the US will receive a USPS tracking number by e-mail so that they can track their order online at www.usps.com
The Express shipping option will guarantee that your order will be shipped via USPS Express with overnight delivery to most U.S. addresses, including PO Boxes. This does bot apply to the processing time to complete your order. Please be aware that we are not able to guarantee the delivery time after turning your order over to the carrier.
For Express Shipping (2Days/Overnight), orders will be processed and shipped within 2 business days.
Insurance is included, and a tracking number will be sent to you via email.
All orders with standard shipping are shipped within 3-5 business days, Monday to Friday, with the exception of holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Labor day, Black Friday weekend...), or high activity rush. During the holiday season, Priority shipping doesn't guarantee a timely delivery: we recommend you chose an Express shipping option. Orders placed on holidays or weekends begin processing the next business day.

All orders are billed in US dollars (USD). Shipping times do not include the 3-5 days for processing your order. Tracking information may be included depending on the destination.

Customs fees

Style and Apply is not responsible for any tariffs, duties, custom fees or taxes that may accompany international shipments, as these are not known at the time of shipping.

USPS will sometimes leave shipments at the door. Please make sure that somebody will be home to receive your package. For business deliveries: USPS will leave shipments at the lobby or at the front door. If you don't want this option, please contact us for a direct signature delivery. Even if you plan to use your product later, please inspect your package and its contents as soon as you receive your order, since USPS claims have to be filled within 21 days of the delivery. For your special events/deadline, please consider an Express Shipping option (2Days or Overnight) since the Priority option doesn't guarantee a timely delivery.

Returns and Exchanges

Your satisfaction with our products and service is our utmost priority! If you would like to exchange or return your wall decal or wall print for any reason we will be happy to replace it for an item in a different size or color. Please see our policies listed below. Thank you for being our valued customer!

We will accept returns on any item that is not custom in nature (such as a custom quote) as long as it has not been used in any way.
Items must be returned within 21 days of purchase.
Our products are guaranteed to be free of defects. We will replace any defective Style & Apply merchandise including custom items that are unused.
Please contact our customer service department before sending an item back to us. We can be reached via our Contact Form on our website or by phone at (855) 337-8055 from 9am to 5pm Pacific time, Monday – Friday.
Style & Apply is not responsible for return shipping charges.
Refunds will be made to the credit card, PayPal or Google Checkout account used at the time of purchase. If the original credit card used is no longer valid, store credit will be issued instead.
We recommend using the original shipping tube for return orders.
The original invoice must be included with each return.
Allow 2-3 weeks for receipt and processing of your return.
Style & Apply is not responsible for lost or damaged shipments during a return. Therefore we recommend a service that provides a tracking number and insurance.
