It’s possible you can make your tiny space feel like a palace. In my first apartment I loved my tiny living room and bedroom: clean, cozy and colorful, it made me happy every time I was in it. That is, until I decided I was being smothered by it. When an apartment feels cluttered, regardless of the size of the space, it is usually more about the sensation issues with the space itself. Here are a few simple tips and tricks that can help to open up a space and give it the makeover it deserves.
Strategically placed mirrors. This is a great addition because mirrors create the illusion of more space. Placing a mirror across from a window is the best way to reflect light and make the room feel larger. A mirrored backslash in a small kitchen will also work visual wonders.
Make use of hidden storage and multi-purpose items. Get a coffee table or ottoman with storage to hide your whatnots. My favorite, a headboard with storage space. It is a great space saving alternative to a night stand. Clocks are another great multipurpose item. Clocks tell time (duh!), but they can also add blog colors to your decor. I love this Great Moment Wall Decal Quote, it is a beautiful classical look that will look great and any color of your choosing.
Follow the Soccer Ball Rule
Decorative accents smaller than a soccer ball crowd a room. Instead, go for fewer decorations that are bigger.
Make Your Ceiling Look Taller. Adding paint or wallpaper to your ceiling will make the room look taller. This will help draw the eyes upward and make the room feel and look bigger. Hands down the easiest way to make a ceiling look higher is to place drapery rods as close to the ceiling as possible. Aim for roughly around 2 inches below the ceiling or molding.
Multiple small pieces of furniture and art can makes a room look cluttered and feel cramped. Statement piece furniture, like a large couch, fills a room can make a small living room feel bigger. In addition, use Furniture with exposed legs. Instead of a sofa with a skirt or boxy chairs, bigger pieces with exposed legs are perfect for a small space. Show off those legs!
Use dramatic art pieces to make a room feel more expansive. Choose art pieces that are large and bold, and make your walls come alive. I am in love this with this Sun & Moon Decal decal, for the over the bed look.
Wall and Floor Colors
When exploring paint colors, stick with light colors for your walls and floor. Darker colors can make a room seem cozy, they also absorb light instead of reflecting the light and make a room feel smaller. If you must add some bold colors, try the smart positioned Rugs. A great trick is to use rugs to separate one room into smaller spaces. Also try using a round rug to open up a space and make it seem larger.
